For those of you having problems getting your 5.25" floppy drive reading and writing reliably, here are a couple of pages scanned from my copy of the Apple II Plus/IIe Troubleshooting & Repair Guide (by Robert C. Brenner). These scans are for performing a manual head-clean of a Disk ][ unit, but the process can be applied to the newer half height drives too, just be careful as the new drives have a small LED that you need to gently remove from the drive housing before removing any of the the internal components.
